The Digicel Bula Boys are now concentrating on the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers set for next month, according to captain Roy Krishna.
Following a disappointing 1-1 draw against Hong Kong-China in the final match of the Tri-Nations Friendlies series last Sunday, Krishna acknowledged that there is still significant work ahead of the main qualifiers. He expressed pride in the team’s performance against Hong Kong and highlighted the critical nature of the upcoming qualification matches.
Krishna conveyed his hopes for the players to remain healthy and fit, returning stronger for the qualifiers. He also mentioned his own long trip back to India before the commencement of the new season.
“Our next major focus is the World Cup Qualification next month,” Krishna stated. “We really need to begin preparations now, as that is the more important challenge. I’m optimistic that the boys will be fit, injury-free, and will come back stronger.”
Head coach Rob Sherman shared a positive outlook, expressing that the team is well-positioned to leverage the experience gained from the friendlies. They are eagerly anticipating their first pool match against the Solomon Islands in October.
The World Cup Qualifiers will kick off with Group A matches at HFC Bank in Suva on October 10, featuring exciting competitions between the Solomon Islands and Fiji, as well as New Caledonia facing Papua New Guinea. Meanwhile, Group B matches in Port Vila will showcase New Zealand against Tahiti on October 11 and Vanuatu competing against the Round One winner on October 12.
