Bula Boys Gear Up for World Cup Qualifiers Showdown!

The Digicel Fiji Bula Boys football team is preparing for a critical match against the Solomon Islands next Thursday, which will be their opening game in the group stage of the Oceania qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The match will be held at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium and is essential for both teams aiming to secure a spot in the global tournament. Head coach Robert Sherman has been concentrating on enhancing the tactical and technical aspects of the squad.

Currently, a 25-member team is in training at the Fiji Football Association (FFA) Academy in Ba, and preparations are intensifying as the match approaches. The arrival of key players like Roy Krishna and Samuela Kautoga on October 6 is anticipated to elevate the team’s performance and readiness.

Team manager Kartik Reddy highlighted the significance of winning the opening game of the campaign. He remarked, “Winning our first group game is crucial as we prepare for the tougher matches ahead. The players know what’s at stake, and they are determined to give their all.”

The squad includes several international players such as Leroy Jennings from Sydney United, Jerome Narayan from Dulwich Hill, Gabby Matanisiga from Wellington Olympic, and Fiji football icon Roy Krishna from Odisha FC. However, the team will be without Mosese Nabose, who has withdrawn due to family obligations, and Mohammed Raheem, who is unable to leave his commitments in New Zealand.

With only 1.5 qualification spots available for Oceania teams, the Fiji side is aware of the challenges that lie ahead.
