Bula Boys Gear Up for World Cup Qualifiers: A New Challenge Awaits

The team is now turning its attention to the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month, according to Digicel Bula Boys captain Roy Krishna. Although the team’s performance has seen a decline, exemplified by a 1-1 draw against Hong Kong-China in the final of the Tri-Nations Friendlies series on Sunday, Krishna noted that there is still work to be done ahead of the crucial qualifiers.

Krishna expressed pride in the team’s efforts against Hong Kong and highlighted the significance of the World Cup Qualification matches in the forthcoming window. He is optimistic that the players will return fit, injury-free, and ready to strengthen their performance for the qualifiers.

Regarding his own situation, Krishna mentioned the long journey back to India before the new season starts. “For the team, our next big challenge is the World Cup Qualification next month,” Krishna stated. “We really need to start working from now; that’s the more important one. So hopefully these boys will be fit, injury free, and come back stronger.”

Head coach Rob Sherman also conveyed his optimism, stating that the team is in a good position to build on the experience gained from the friendlies. They are eagerly anticipating their first pool match against the Solomon Islands in October.

The World Cup Qualifiers will kick off with Group A fixtures at HFC Bank in Suva on October 10, featuring exciting matchups including Solomon Islands against Fiji, as well as New Caledonia facing Papua New Guinea. In Port Vila, Group B will see New Zealand play against Tahiti on October 11, followed by Vanuatu competing against the winner of Round One on October 12.
