The Fiji men’s football team is gearing up for a significant phase in their journey towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. In preparation for their crucial semi-final encounter against New Zealand on March 21, the team, known as the Bula Boys, will compete against three leading clubs in New Zealand: Auckland United, Eastern Suburbs, and the A-League’s Wellington Phoenix.

Team manager Kartik Reddy emphasized the importance of these matches for honing the squad’s skills and cohesion ahead of the qualifier at Sky Stadium in Wellington. “The three matches will be a crucial part of our preparation,” Reddy stated. The Bula Boys are currently in camp with 26 players at the Ba Academy, with the final squad set to be announced on March 1 before travelling to Auckland.

In addition to their training and matches, six players based in New Zealand will join the team, while seven others will undergo trials aimed at strengthening the squad’s overall capacity. Reddy noted, “These trials will not only present individual opportunities but will also add depth and competition within the team.”

The friendly matches kick off with Auckland United FC on March 8, followed by encounters against Eastern Suburbs AFC on March 9, and culminating with a highly anticipated match against Wellington Phoenix on March 15.

As the team anticipates the showdowns, they are seen as vital stepping stones not only for securing their position in the qualifiers but also for leaving a mark on the international stage. Their preparation reflects a concerted effort to blend seasoned players with newcomers, fostering a spirit of optimism among fans as well as the players, who are determined to make history in the World Cup journey.

The Bula Boys have demonstrated resilience and a commitment to excellence in their training, inspiring a hopeful outlook as they head into these key fixtures. The excitement is building, and fans can look forward to supporting their national team in the challenges that lie ahead.
