Digicel Fiji Bula Boys head coach Rob Sherman is committed to devising a tactical strategy as they prepare to face Hong Kong on Sunday at Churchill Park. While he feels confident, Sherman acknowledges the challenges that come with facing a different opponent in Hong Kong.
“We’ve analyzed Hong Kong’s gameplay, and we are preparing based on what we expect them to do,” Sherman stated. “We will solidify our approach on Thursday when we observe their match. This presents a different challenge than our game against the Solomons, so we will adjust our strategy accordingly.”
Although Hong Kong is currently ranked lower than Fiji, Sherman emphasized that rankings are not their main concern. “Hong Kong’s lower ranking is not significant to us right now, especially since ours has improved, but that’s not our focus,” he said. “Our priority is the execution of our game plan, which relies on tactical preparedness. If the players implement this, it shows we are progressing.”
Sherman also detailed the team’s training plan, highlighting a balanced emphasis on both offensive and defensive tactics. “We will alternate between working with the ball one day and without it another day,” he explained. “We will practice set plays on subsequent days, ensuring that the players are clear on what to expect during the game.”
With a comprehensive preparation strategy set, the Bula Boys are ready to face Hong Kong with confidence, prepared to adapt and execute their game plan as they advance in the tournament.
