Bula Boys Battle Through for Hard-Fought Win!

The FIFA International “A” Friendlies Tri-Nations Series match against the Solomon Islands proved to be a vital test for the Digicel Fiji Bula Boys. The intensity of the opposition pushed the Fijians to perform and execute effectively under the night lights at HFC Bank Stadium.

Tevita Waranaivalu scored a penalty goal in the 81st minute, securing a 1-0 victory for Fiji amid the cold and windy conditions of Laucala Bay. Head coach Rob Sherman praised his team’s efforts but expressed that there was still room for improvement.

“It was a very close game against strong opposition, which we genuinely need,” Sherman stated. “The performance was solid given the challenging conditions. While it wasn’t everything we aspired to achieve, the team displayed commendable character. We aimed for a win, made some adjustments beforehand, and succeeded.”

This match serves as a preview of what the Fijians can expect when they face the Solomon Islanders again next month in the World Cup qualifiers. The team has returned to the Fiji Football Academy in Ba to prepare for their upcoming match against Hong Kong-China, scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m. at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Meanwhile, the Solomon Islands will take on Hong Kong-China on Thursday at 7 p.m. at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
