Building Resilience: Blue Pacific Continents Disaster Workshop kickoff!

The first disaster management workshop for the Blue Pacific Continents began its weeklong sessions yesterday morning at the Novotel Suva Lami Bay Conference Centre.

Chief operating officer for World Vision South Asia Pacific regional office, Sarah Bearup, emphasized the significance of locally led initiatives in humanitarian and development efforts.

“We have nine countries represented, including some of our World Vision local staff as well as several local partners,” she said.

“We’re really bringing a whole group together this week.”

Bearup added that the objective is to enhance the existing humanitarian ecosystem.

“By strengthening capacity, particularly in disaster management, we are building the necessary skills and tools to respond to disasters.”

“This includes preparedness, mitigation, addressing environmental impacts, ensuring the rights of people during disasters, and ensuring dignified and effective responses,” she said.

The workshop will last for five days.
