Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized the importance of addressing issues such as crime, drug abuse, and broader social challenges starting within the home. During a Father’s Day service at Nasareci Methodist Church in Namaka, Nadi, he spoke directly to parents about their vital role in guiding and educating their children. Rabuka noted that a child’s behavior is significantly influenced by the examples set by their parents.

He stressed that effective communication, the imparting of good values, and active parental involvement are essential for creating a brighter future for the next generation. According to Rabuka, when children seek guidance, it is incumbent upon parents to provide it, as everything a child learns and experiences originates in the family setting.

This call to action aligns with a growing emphasis among government officials on the need for enhanced parental engagement, particularly in light of Fiji’s increasing drug-related challenges. Other officials, including Justice Minister Siromi Turaga, have echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance for youth to make responsible choices and seek advice from trusted adults.

Furthermore, the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs has called on parents to prioritize their children’s well-being, especially in a time when social commitments and technology can be distracting.

Rabuka’s message resonates deeply within the community, reminding everyone of their collective responsibility to nurture and protect the youth. By fostering stronger family bonds and values, there is optimism that communities can cultivate an environment where children can grow up healthy and avoid the pitfalls of drug abuse and crime. Together, these efforts may lead to the development of a more resilient and healthier society in the future.
