Bua Central College’s Under-19 Rugby League manager, Meli Kuruvoli, has noted a growing interest from major rugby schools on Viti Levu in his players, a clear indication of their burgeoning talent. This comes after Bua’s impressive performance, showcasing their skills and game awareness in only their second year of competition.
Kuruvoli remarked that numerous schools have approached them, particularly for players in the under-18 categories, emphasizing that the choice lies ultimately with the parents and students regarding their future representation. The recognition from prestigious institutions, despite facing back-to-back losses, underscores the quality and potential within the Bua squad.
Fiji Bati coach, Wise Kativerata, recently expressed similar sentiments after observing the upward trend in talent among young players, particularly those from the Bua team. He highlighted that many of them, aged 16 to 18, are already making noticeable impacts on the field, reflecting positively on the future of rugby in Fiji.
In a closely contested match, Bua narrowly lost to Assemblies of God High School with a score of 22-18. Kuruvoli stated that the team will concentrate on improving their conversion rates during training, as missed opportunities at crucial moments contributed to their defeat, despite outscoring their opponents in tries.
This situation not only highlights the ongoing development of rugby in Fiji but also emphasizes the importance of training and development at the grassroots level. As various teams scout young talents, it is clear that the future of rugby in Fiji is bright, promising an exciting journey for these young athletes as they continue to hone their skills.
