Bua on the Brink: Can They Secure Premier League Promotion?

The Bua football team has taken a significant step toward promotion to next year’s Digicel Premier League. They achieved a narrow 1-0 victory against Tavua in the first playoff match held at Subrail Park in Labasa. This win positions Bua favorably for promotion, as they now only need a draw in the upcoming return match in Viti Levu to secure their place in the top league.

On the other hand, Tavua will need to win the second leg by at least two goals to overcome Bua. The Tavua team features experienced players Malakai Tiwa and Josaia Ratu. This crucial return match is scheduled for next week at Garvey Park in Tavua.

In the meantime, the 2024 Digicel Fiji Girls Under-16 League took place at the Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa, with participation from teams across Suva, Nasinu, Rewa, Navua, Northland Tailevu, Tailevu Naitasiri, and Lami. The match between Suva and Nasinu ended in a 1-1 draw. Rewa later secured a 1-0 victory against Navua, while the match between Northland Tailevu and Tailevu Naitasiri concluded in a goalless draw.

In the top league, five matches are set to take place today in the DFPL competition. Navua will host Nasinu at the Uprising Sports Complex at 2 PM, coinciding with Nadroga’s match against Tailevu Naitasiri at Lawaqa Park. Three additional matches are scheduled for 3 PM: Ba vs. Labasa at Govind Park, Lautoka vs. Suva at Subrail Park, and Nadi vs. Rewa at Prince Charles Park. Rewa requires only a draw to clinch the Digicel Fiji Premier League title today, which would mark their second national league title, following their first in 2022.
