A senior administrative officer from the Bua Provincial Council Office has advocated for enhanced regulations targeting individuals suspected of drug-related offenses. Roko Tui Bua, Valetino Seruitukana, made this call during a consultation for the Counter Narcotics Bill held in Bua.

Seruitukana highlighted the need for strict curfews for individuals found possessing drugs or currently under investigations. He emphasized that the free movement of suspects within communities contributes to the ongoing circulation of illegal substances. He stated, “This is the only way that we should stop all these drugs roaming our streets because lives are really vulnerable, and it would be best if there is a curfew on drug suspects.”

To bolster community safety, Seruitukana proposed that imposing curfews would restrict the movement of suspects and limit visitors, thereby reducing opportunities for further illegal activities. Additionally, he urged village headmen to enhance monitoring of individuals entering or temporarily residing in villages, stressing the heightened vulnerability of communities to illicit operations.

The ongoing discussions regarding the Counter Narcotics Bill will continue in the Northern Division this week, reflecting a proactive approach to combat drug-related issues and enhance public safety. By implementing such measures, authorities hope to create a safer environment for all residents.
