Bua Central College’s Under-19 rugby team is preparing for an important match in the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Vodafone Deans playoffs. This is their second appearance in the competition, and they are building on their experiences from last year. Team manager Viliame Tuivunilagi stated that their recent performance in the Northern Zone final has strengthened their determination.
The squad is bolstered by the inclusion of four players from the Junior Bati team, who recently triumphed over Tonga. Their participation brings much-needed experience and confidence to the Bua team. Tuivunilagi emphasized the importance of learning from last year’s playoff loss, as they aim to regain, rebuild, and refocus their efforts for success this season.
However, Bua Central is set to face a challenging opponent in Naitasiri Secondary, who recently made headlines by defeating the defending champions, Lami High School. Tuivunilagi is urging fans and supporters to come out in numbers to cheer on the team, as they strive for a place in the national quarterfinals.
The match against Naitasiri Secondary is scheduled to kick off at 1:55 PM today at Bidesi Ground in Suva, and the anticipation surrounding the game is palpable.
Adding to the broader rugby narrative in Fiji, support for grassroots rugby is growing, with scouts from various prestigious schools noting the emerging talents within teams like Bua Central. This trend echoes sentiments shared by Fiji Bati coach, Wise Kativerata, highlighting the promising future of rugby in the nation.
As the matches unfold, the collective community spirit and gaze towards up-and-coming talent will undoubtedly enhance the excitement surrounding this weekend’s rugby events.
