Post Fiji announced on Friday that it has renewed its agreement with BSP Bank to provide rural banking services. BSP Bank currently delivers banking services at 36 post offices across Fiji.
Isaac Mow, the CEO of Post Fiji, highlighted the significance of this partnership and the company’s longstanding history in banking. He stated, “Banking services is nothing new to Post Fiji. In fact, when the post office started, it also started with the post savings bank, which then became the National Bank of Fiji and then Colonial and now BSP. We’re glad to be part of that journey and to partner again with BSP in providing rural banking services to those in the far-flung areas of Fiji.”
This renewed agreement follows a tri-party agreement signed earlier this week among Post Fiji, BSP Bank, and the Ministry of Finance, which is aimed at enhancing financial service access for rural communities.
Rajeshwar Singh, the acting country head of BSP Bank, mentioned that Post Fiji’s extensive infrastructure enables the extension of their services to customers in rural regions. “Our rural customers are able to make deposits, withdraw cash up to $500 a day, reset their debit card PIN numbers, have their BSP debit card replaced, and check account balances. Customers can also apply for new bank accounts with BSP,” he explained.
Singh further noted that rural customers can also utilize BSP’s digital banking platform, where over 90 percent of transactions take place. He emphasized that through this government-led partnership, Post Fiji has effectively reached Fiji’s unbanked population, improving access to banking services, which in turn stimulates economic activity not only in rural areas but throughout Fiji.
He added, “We have seen how this collaboration has transformed lives and communities, and we are excited about what the future holds as we continue to innovate and expand our services.”
