The ACT Brumbies are gearing up for a critical challenge as they kick off their Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season against the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium on February 15. Strongman Rob Valetini acknowledged the historical difficulty Australian teams have faced when competing in Fiji, emphasizing the need for the Brumbies to approach the match with caution and determination.

Valetini noted that the Brumbies are fully aware that no Australian teams have triumphed on Fijian soil, making their first match of the season notably significant. Reflecting on past performances, he said that 2025 is the pivotal year for the team to claim the Super Rugby Pacific title, especially after falling short in the semi-finals for two consecutive years. Claiming victory against the Drua will be crucial for their ambitions.

The revised competition structure, with 11 teams instead of 12, intensifies the importance of starting strong. Only six teams will advance to the finals, making every match crucial, especially the opener against the Drua. Valetini expressed excitement and determination about this challenge, highlighting the team’s hard work throughout training and trial matches.

On the other hand, Drua co-captain Tevita Ikanivere has called on rugby fans to secure their tickets early and support their team in what promises to be an electrifying match against the Brumbies.

As the Brumbies prepare for this significant encounter, they not only aim to break the streak of defeats in Fiji but also to set a positive tone for the rest of their season. This commitment to overcoming challenges can serve as inspiration for the team and their supporters, as they work towards their goal of reaching the finals and ultimately claiming the championship.
