A tourist was reportedly the victim of a robbery in broad daylight on Sunday, losing over FJD $2,000 along Rukua Street in Nailuva, Suva. Police have confirmed the incident and indicated that their investigation is ongoing.

The robbery took place around 12:30 PM while the tourist was waiting for a taxi near a T-junction close to a Korean-run church. According to the victim, three men approached and forcefully took a small crossbody bag containing a wallet filled with cash. During the altercation, the victim fell, sustaining scratches on the right knee and injuries to a finger, along with damage to their clothing.

Following the theft, the suspects fled towards an empty lot along the roadside. As the victim attempted to chase after them, one of the assailants allegedly threw stones, which prompted the victim to stop out of fear for their safety.

Fortunately, the community quickly came to the victim’s aid. A passer-by returned belongings that had been dropped during the struggle, and a woman, responding to the victim’s cries for help, arranged and covered the taxi fare to the police station. She later provided a statement to police.

Law enforcement personnel returned to the scene of the robbery, speaking with nearby residents and gathering witness statements from two individuals who reported seeing the suspects escape. The victim was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment before providing a formal statement to the police.

Police have classified the incident as a robbery and issued a written case receipt. While they confirmed that investigations are ongoing, they have not disclosed if any suspects have been identified or apprehended. This incident highlights the importance of community support in times of crisis and the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to ensure public safety.
