Kalaveti Ravouvou, a former Flying Fijians player and current centre for the Bristol Bears, showcased his outstanding skills by scoring two tries in the team’s impressive 54-24 victory over Leicester at Welford Road. The Bears achieved a remarkable milestone with a club record of 40 points in the first half, completing six tries from six visits into the Leicester 22.
In just his third premiership match of the season, Ravouvou has made an impact with five tries to date, starting every match since Round 6. He is now only two tries shy of his teammate Gabriel Ibitoye, who leads the premiership in scoring after round 8. The Bears dominated the match, with a total of eight tries, while Leicester managed five.
One of Ravouvou’s standout moments came in the 35th minute when he executed a clever break from deep in his own half, linking up with Ibitoye to push into Leicester territory. Ibitoye’s inventive basketball-style offload found fullback Richard Lane, who scored. Ravouvou also delivered an electrifying solo effort, breaking from the 22-meter line to score what many are calling the try of the season.
The Bears had a commanding lead of 40-12 at halftime, thanks to scoring from both Ravouvou and a teammate in the 28th minute.
Head coach Pat Lam praised the team’s performance, describing the first-half display as one of the best he has witnessed during his tenure. He noted the confidence and execution in their play, while also acknowledging the need to maintain their momentum with a quick turnaround to their next match against Sale on Friday night. Lam emphasized the importance of building on their success and continuing to improve, highlighting the positive trajectory of the team.
This victory not only reflects the team’s hard work and determination but also brings hope for an even stronger season ahead as they build on their momentum.
Overall, the Bristol Bears are showing great promise, and with players like Ravouvou in such fine form, fans can look forward to an exciting remainder of the season.
