The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) has infused the holiday season with joy as around 600 children from the Collection Pillars of Recycling (CPR) across Fiji celebrated Christmas with gifts from PRF’s Annual Christmas Gift and Stationery Drive. Locations such as Sigatoka, Lautoka, Ba, Rakiraki, and Labasa were part of this heartwarming initiative.
The event brought smiles and laughter to the children, encapsulating the true spirit of Christmas. PRF founder, Amitesh Deo, emphasized that this initiative serves as a reminder to adults of the wonder of being a child, where happiness is found in small things, and where imagination has no bounds. He noted that the drive highlights the essence of Christmas — to spread joy and happiness, irrespective of the challenges faced in the world today.
Launched in 2022, the Christmas Gift and Stationery Drive goes beyond gift-giving; it aims to provide hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging for children and families often overlooked in society. Deo pointed out the vital role of CPRs in Fiji’s recycling efforts, illustrating how these families are dedicated to sustainable waste management, often doing so under difficult circumstances.
Many families involved in CPR live in poverty, where basic necessities overshadow fun gifts or educational supplies. This initiative alleviates some of their burdens while affirming that every child deserves to receive a gift at Christmas. This year’s focus is not only on toys but also on crucial school stationery to assist the children in preparing for the academic year ahead.
Deo reiterated the importance of restoring dignity to these families and recognizing their contributions to society. He encouraged everyone to extend their holiday spirit beyond mere gifts and instead provide hope and acknowledgment.
PRF expresses gratitude to numerous partners and supporters who made this event possible, including local businesses and organizations. In a significant development, this year marked the first time the drive reached Labasa, further expanding its reach and impact throughout Fiji.
The efforts of PRF in bringing joy to these children exemplify the belief that every child, regardless of their circumstances, deserves to experience the magic of Christmas, which is a hopeful and uplifting narrative that resonates with the spirit of the season.
