The villagers of Yavulo in Nadroga have celebrated the commissioning of a new footcrossing, a vital infrastructure project aimed at enhancing safety and accessibility for the community. The footcrossing, which costs over $94,000, is part of the government’s Community Access Roads, Footpaths, and Footbridges Programme and is supported by the UNDP Pacific.
Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Jovesa Vocea, emphasized that this initiative reflects the ministry’s ongoing commitment to building resilient and inclusive infrastructure across Fiji. The footcrossing is designed to provide safer travel routes for schoolchildren, mothers, people with disabilities, and the wider community, improving access to essential services.
Vocea also indicated that this project aligns with a broader governmental vision of boosting economic growth in rural areas through improved infrastructure.
