The Grand Pacific Hotel was the venue for the “China Guizhou Bridge Construction Art Photography Exhibition” hosted by the Chinese Embassy last Thursday, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.
The event was attended by government officials, diplomatic representatives, local Chinese community leaders, and other guests.
During his keynote speech, Ambassador Zhou Jian of China to Fiji remarked on Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s recent state visit to China, highlighting how the journey from China’s hilly southwest to the coastal east and from rural areas to Beijing showcased the nation’s remarkable transformation from poverty to prosperity. He described this visit as having “opened up a new chapter in China-Fiji relations.”
“China and Fiji are both nations committed to peace,” Mr. Zhou stated. “We must collaborate to tackle global challenges, fostering unity over division, cooperation instead of confrontation, inclusiveness rather than exclusion, and mutual benefit instead of zero-sum competition, to ensure stability in an unsettled world.”
The exhibition featured striking photographs of Guizhou’s innovative bridge construction, symbolizing not only engineering excellence but also a broader narrative of progress and connection.
“These bridges embody the spirit of cooperation characterizing China-Fiji relations,” Mr. Zhou noted.
He emphasized that the relationship between China and Fiji has developed significantly over the years, supported by initiatives like Chinese government scholarships and various aid projects that have bolstered bilateral relations.
“Together, we can continue to construct a brighter future for both our countries and their people,” he concluded.
