Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited has initiated an ambitious tourism project in Korovatu, Labasa, marking a significant investment in the region. This project, positioned near the popular Korovatu picnic area with views of Mali Island and Malau, was recently inspected by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Communications, Manoa Kamikamica.
The project’s management, led by Ma Xianlin, an experienced tourism developer from China, underscores his commitment to this venture. After his initial visit to Fiji in 2018, Xianlin acquired the 151-acre property in 2022. Expressing gratitude towards Investment Fiji for their support, he revealed that approximately $5 million has already been invested in the initial development stages, which include upgrading the site with plans for a hotel, resort, guest house, cantilever swimming pool, mini cable car, mountain top staircases, and various tourism-related activities aimed at enhancing the visitor experience.
Xianlin noted that the project commenced in 2023 and will unfold over five years, highlighting the extensive work still required to establish this multi-million-dollar tourist attraction in Vanua Levu.
Deputy Prime Minister Kamikamica commended the progress made so far, remarking on the exceptional views offered by the elevated location. He conveyed his enthusiasm for the local community’s forthcoming access to diverse tourism experiences typically associated with overseas destinations. Additionally, he encouraged Xianlin to seek assistance from the government and his ministry as needed to aid the project’s advancement.
This initiative not only promises to boost tourism in the region but also aims to create jobs and foster economic growth for the local community, providing a hopeful outlook for the future of Vanua Levu’s tourism industry.
