Breath Test Crackdown Nets Drunk-Driving Arrests in Two Regions

A 17-year-old student with a provisional license was one of 14 drivers detained for drunk driving during recent police operations. The Police Traffic Enforcement Unit executed a second round of Random Breath Test operations along the Namaka–Nadi corridor, where they tested a total of 320 drivers. This effort led to 11 arrests for driving under the influence.

Simultaneously, another traffic enforcement team conducted similar operations in the Suva area, where 38 drivers were tested, resulting in three additional arrests for drunk driving. The police reported that out of the 14 arrested drivers, five held provisional licenses, while three were public service vehicle drivers and six possessed Group 2 licenses.

These proactive measures by law enforcement aim to enhance road safety and discourage impaired driving, which is crucial for protecting both drivers and pedestrians. The operations demonstrate a continued commitment to enforcing traffic laws and ensuring a safer driving environment for all.
