Breast cancer represents more than just numbers; it carries with it personal stories that deeply affect families, friends, and communities, stated former tertiary lecturer Akosita Toga.

Ms. Toga made these remarks during her address at the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education, where she spoke on Friday as part of the institution’s Picktober and Diwali celebrations.

She emphasized that no individual should endure the battle against breast cancer in isolation, urging nursing students and staff to actively promote the breast health care services available in Fiji.

“Breast cancer impacts many lives, including our mothers, sisters, friends, and ourselves. It is essential that we support one another in this fight,” Ms. Toga remarked.

She also highlighted the significance of early detection and effective treatment in preventing breast cancer, urging students to raise awareness about these critical issues.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) is commemorated worldwide every October to enhance understanding and awareness of breast cancer. The month serves to underscore the importance of early detection, timely diagnosis, thorough treatment, and the necessity of supporting those living with cancer.
