Breast cancer represents more than mere statistics; each number reflects a personal story that significantly affects families, friends, and communities, according to former tertiary lecturer Akosita Toga.
Ms. Toga addressed attendees at the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education on Friday during the institution’s Picktober and Diwali celebration. She emphasized that no one should face breast cancer in isolation and urged nursing students and staff to promote the breast health care services available in Fiji.
“Breast cancer impacts countless individuals—mothers, sisters, friends, and even ourselves. No one should fight cancer alone,” Ms. Toga stated.
She informed the students that early detection and proper treatment are crucial for preventing breast cancer, highlighting the importance of their role in raising awareness about this issue.
October is recognized globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), aimed at fostering awareness about breast cancer. This month is dedicated to emphasizing the significance of early detection, timely diagnosis, comprehensive treatment, and the necessity for supporting individuals living with cancer.
