Breast cancer represents more than just a statistic; it signifies real stories that affect families, friends, and communities, according to former tertiary lecturer Akosita Toga.
Ms. Toga addressed students and staff at the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education during the institution’s Picktober and Diwali celebration on Friday. She emphasized that no one should face breast cancer alone and encouraged nursing students and staff to promote the breast health care services available in Fiji.
“Breast cancer impacts many lives, including our mothers, sisters, friends, and ourselves. It’s crucial that we support each other in this battle,” Ms. Toga stated. She informed the students that the best way to combat breast cancer lies in early detection and proper treatment, stressing the importance of raising awareness about this issue.
October is recognized globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), aimed at increasing awareness surrounding breast cancer. It serves as a reminder of the significance of early detection, timely diagnosis, thorough treatment, and the necessity of supporting those living with cancer.
