Breast cancer is more than just a statistic; each statistic represents a real story affecting families, friends, and communities, according to former tertiary lecturer Akosita Toga.
Speaking at the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education during their Picktober and Diwali celebration, Ms. Toga emphasized that no one should face breast cancer alone. She encouraged nursing students and staff to promote the breast health care services available in Fiji.
“Breast cancer impacts many lives, including those of our mothers, sisters, friends, and even ourselves. No one should confront cancer in isolation,” Ms. Toga remarked.
She stressed to the students the importance of early detection and proper treatment as key preventive measures against breast cancer, urging them to raise awareness on the subject.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) is observed globally every October to heighten awareness about breast cancer. This month emphasizes the significance of early detection, timely diagnoses, comprehensive treatment, and the necessity of support for those living with cancer.
