The Rural Water and Sanitation Policy has been emphasized to ensure the availability of clean drinking water and sanitary facilities, focusing particularly on rural and maritime areas. Notably, the Water Authority of Fiji has been allocated a budget of $259 million to support initiatives like the rainwater harvesting scheme, offering rural households essential equipment to collect and store rainwater.
Additionally, Mr. Rabuka reiterated the government’s commitment to existing social protection programs—including the Family Assistance Scheme and various allowances aimed at supporting vulnerable populations—demonstrating a balanced approach of empowerment while maintaining essential safety nets.
