Police Constable (PC) Sadamma from the Labasa Police Station recently underscored the capability of women to juggle multiple roles, including being a police officer, mother, and wife. Her comments came during a ceremony where she and 37 other police personnel from the Northern Division were awarded Long Service and Good Conduct medals by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew at the Labasa Civic Centre.

With a distinguished 20-year career in the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma has gained invaluable experience at several stations, including Totogo in Suva and Lautoka. Reflecting on her journey, she acknowledged the challenges of initially working in a male-dominated environment. “It wasn’t easy at first, but with the support from my family and understanding superiors, I managed to fulfill my duties effectively,” she shared. This support has been crucial as she navigates the complexities of being a mother of three alongside her professional responsibilities.

Currently serving in the Sexual Offence Unit, PC Sadamma deals primarily with sensitive cases involving children and women, a role she finds profoundly rewarding. “I chose to become a Policewoman because I wanted to help others, especially women and children,” she expressed, highlighting her commitment to supporting vulnerable populations in society.

In her address, she urged young women aspiring to enter the Fiji Police Force to remain steadfast in their aspirations. “Nothing comes easy in life; everyone must either work hard or smart to have a fulfilling career,” she emphasized, showcasing her belief in resilience and hard work as vital components of success.

PC Sadamma’s recognition not only celebrates her individual achievements but also signifies a broader movement towards gender equality within law enforcement. Her narrative serves as a powerful inspiration for future generations of women, demonstrating that with determination, support, and hard work, they can excel in diverse fields and challenge traditional gender roles.

In conclusion, PC Sadamma’s story is not just about personal success but also a hopeful message of progress towards gender equality in policing and beyond. It encourages women to pursue their dreams with courage and conviction, promising a more inclusive future for all.
