Ruci Vukialau is poised to make her mark in a predominantly male industry following her graduation from Fiji National University in Nasinu. The 19-year-old recently earned her Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling after completing a 12-week training program with the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC).

Her passion for tiling was ignited by observing her father as he undertook repairs and renovations at their home. Ms. Vukialau acknowledged that the training presented significant challenges, particularly as most of her peers were male.

“There were moments when I struggled to voice my opinions in class, often opting to stay quiet while working alongside them,” she shared. “However, I was determined to succeed and make my way in the workforce. It was tough at times, but I had a supportive network pushing me to pursue my studies. Staying connected to my faith provided the motivation needed to finish the course.”

As she looks ahead to entering the profession, Ruci is aware of the demanding nature of the job, which often requires long hours and availability, posing difficulties for those balancing family and personal responsibilities.
