Ruci Vukialau is on the path to success in a traditionally male-dominated industry after graduating from Fiji National University, Nasinu, with a Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling. At just 19 years old, she completed her training through the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), which spanned 12 weeks.

Her interest in tile laying was ignited by observing her father as he worked on home repairs and upgrades. Despite the challenges posed by being one of the few women in her class, Ms. Vukialau remained determined to succeed. She admitted there were times when she struggled to voice her thoughts in class due to the gender dynamics but was buoyed by a supportive network that encouraged her to persevere.

Preparation for the challenges ahead is underway, as Ruci understands that the profession demands long hours and requires flexibility, which can be difficult for those trying to balance family life and personal commitments.
