Ruci Vukialau is poised to make her mark in a predominantly male field after graduating from Fiji National University, Nasinu, with a Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling. At just 19 years old, she trained for 12 weeks with the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) and is on the verge of starting her career.

Her passion for tiling was ignited by watching her father undertake home repairs and renovations. Ms. Vukialau reflected on the challenges of her training, noting that most of her classmates were male. She sometimes found it difficult to speak up in class, opting to remain quiet while working beside them.

Despite adversity, Ms. Vukialau was determined to thrive and enhance her career opportunities. She expressed that the journey was exhausting at times, but a supportive network encouraged her to persevere in her studies. Her faith played a key role in keeping her motivated throughout the course.

As she gears up to enter the workforce, Ruci is aware of the challenges posed by long hours and the need for flexibility, which can be difficult for those balancing work with family and personal obligations.
