Ruci Vukialau is poised to succeed in a male-dominated field after graduating from Fiji National University in Nasinu. The 19-year-old has earned her Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling and completed a 12-week training program with the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC).

Her passion for tile laying was ignited while observing her father as he repaired and improved their home. Vukialau acknowledged the difficulties she faced during training, particularly as she was often the only woman in a class predominantly comprising men.

“There were times I found it hard to express myself in class, often choosing to remain silent while working alongside them,” she shared. However, her determination to succeed pushed her forward, and she credits her supportive peers and faith for keeping her motivated throughout the course.

As she prepares to enter the workforce, Vukialau is aware of the challenges posed by long hours and the commitment required, particularly for those balancing family and personal responsibilities.
