Police Constable (PC) Sadamma from the Labasa Police Station has eloquently demonstrated that women can successfully balance multiple roles, including those of police officer, mother, and wife. This statement was made after she and 37 other police personnel from the Northern Division received Long Service and Good Conduct medals during a ceremony officiated by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew at the Labasa Civic Centre.
With an impressive 20-year tenure in the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma has faced various challenges, particularly in a historically male-dominated environment. Reflecting on her journey, she noted, “It wasn’t easy at first, but with the unwavering support from my family and understanding superiors, I was able to fulfill my duties effectively.” Now serving in the Sexual Offence Unit, PC Sadamma focuses on sensitive cases involving children and women, a role she finds immensely rewarding.
“My intention to become a Policewoman stemmed from a desire to support others, especially women and children,” she said, underscoring her commitment to aiding vulnerable communities. Encouraging young women interested in law enforcement, she emphasized the importance of perseverance, stating, “Nothing comes easy in life; everyone must either work hard or smart to have a fulfilling career.”
