Ruci Vukialau, a recent graduate from Fiji National University, is poised to make her mark in a predominantly male industry. At just 19 years old, she has earned her Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling after completing a rigorous 12-week training program with the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC).
Her interest in tiling was ignited while observing her father undertake home repairs and enhancements. Throughout her training, Ruci faced unique challenges, particularly as the majority of her classmates were male. “There were times I struggled to voice my thoughts in class, often opting to stay quiet while collaborating with them,” she shared.
Despite the difficulties, Ruci remained steadfast in her ambition to succeed in the workforce. She described the journey as exhausting but credited a supportive network for motivating her to persevere in her studies. Her faith also played a crucial role in helping her complete the course.
As Ruci prepares to enter the workforce, she is aware of the demanding nature of the job, which often requires long hours and flexibility—factors that can complicate personal and family commitments.
