Police Constable (PC) Sadamma from the Labasa Police Station has steadfastly demonstrated that women can excel in diverse roles, including as police officers, wives, and mothers. Her remarks came after she and 37 other police personnel from the Northern Division were awarded Long Service and Good Conduct medals during a ceremony held at the Labasa Civic Centre, presided over by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew.

With a commendable 20-year tenure in the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma’s journey has taken her through various stations, including Totogo Police Station in Suva and Lautoka Police Station. Reflecting on her experience, she acknowledged the hurdles faced in a male-dominated environment but credited her family’s unwavering support and the understanding of her superiors for her ability to thrive. “At first, it wasn’t easy,” she shared, “but with their backing, I managed to navigate my responsibilities effectively.”

Currently serving in the Sexual Offence Unit, she focuses on sensitive cases involving children and women, a role she finds deeply rewarding. “I chose to become a Policewoman because I wanted to help others, especially women and children,” she expressed, underlining her commitment to aiding vulnerable groups in society.

Encouraging young women who aspire to join the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma emphasized the importance of resilience and hard work. “Nothing comes easy in life; everyone must either work hard or smart to have a fulfilling career,” she stated, highlighting that dedication can lead to success in both professional and personal arenas.
