Police Constable (PC) Sadamma from the Labasa Police Station has demonstrated the remarkable ability of women to thrive in multiple roles, including those of police officer, mother, and wife. Her statements come in the wake of receiving a Long Service and Good Conduct medal, alongside 37 other officers from the Northern Division, during a ceremony presided over by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew at the Labasa Civic Centre.
With 20 years of dedicated service in the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma has worked across various stations, such as Totogo Police Station in Suva and Lautoka Police Station. Reflecting on her journey, she recognized the challenges that arise when navigating a historically male-dominated environment. “Initially, it wasn’t easy,” she shared, “but with the unwavering support from my family and understanding superiors, I managed to perform my duties effectively.”
Currently, she serves in the Sexual Offence Unit, dealing with sensitive cases that primarily involve children and women. “I chose to become a Policewoman because I wanted to help others, especially women and children,” she remarked, illustrating her commitment to supporting vulnerable populations through her work.
PC Sadamma also offered encouragement to young women interested in pursuing careers in law enforcement. “Nothing comes easy in life; everyone must either work hard or smart to have a fulfilling career,” she advised. Her insights not only highlight the importance of perseverance and resilience but also serve as an inspiring message that women can excel in challenging roles.
Her story symbolizes a positive shift towards greater gender equality within the Fiji Police Force and is a testament to the evolving role of women in policing. By sharing her experiences, PC Sadamma inspires future generations of women to pursue their ambitions with confidence and determination, reinforcing the idea that success is achievable through hard work and support from family and community.
This narrative resonates as a beacon of hope, showcasing the dedication and fortitude necessary for overcoming obstacles in both professional and personal life.
