Police Constable (PC) Sadamma from the Labasa Police Station emphasizes the capability of women to excel in various roles, including that of a police officer, mother, and wife. Her insights were shared following her recognition during a ceremony where she, along with 37 other officers from the Northern Division, received Long Service and Good Conduct medals presented by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew at the Labasa Civic Centre.

Having dedicated 20 years to the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma’s journey has taken her through multiple stations, including Totogo Police Station in Suva and Lautoka Police Station. Reflecting on her experiences in a historically male-dominated environment, she acknowledged the challenges she faced initially, but attributed her success to the unwavering support of her family and understanding superiors. “It wasn’t easy at first, but with their backing, I managed to navigate my responsibilities effectively,” she remarked.

Currently, PC Sadamma serves in the Sexual Offence Unit, dealing with sensitive cases primarily involving children and women, a role she finds deeply fulfilling. “I chose to become a Policewoman because I wanted to help others, especially women and children,” she shared passionately, illustrating her dedication to serving vulnerable populations.

PC Sadamma encourages young women aspiring to join law enforcement to pursue their dreams and emphasizes the importance of hard work and resilience. “Nothing comes easy in life; everyone must either work hard or smart to have a fulfilling career,” she stated, inspiring future generations that success is achievable through determination and support.

Her story not only highlights her personal achievements but also symbolizes a broader movement towards gender equality in policing. By sharing her narrative, PC Sadamma stands as a beacon of hope for women, promoting the idea that challenges can be overcome, and that a meaningful balance between professional and personal life is attainable. This inspiring message encourages women to break barriers in any field they choose.
