Breaking Barriers: A Policewoman’s Journey of Dedication and Service

Police Constable Sadamma, stationed at the Labasa Police Station, signifies the potential for women to excel in multiple roles, including as police officers, mothers, and wives. Her empowering message comes in light of receiving a Long Service and Good Conduct medal along with 37 other police personnel from the Northern Division during a ceremony at the Labasa Civic Centre, officiated by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew.

With a dedicated 20-year career in the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma has served in various capacities, navigating the challenges of a predominantly male environment. Reflecting on her journey, she shared, “At first, it wasn’t easy, but with support from my family and understanding superiors, I managed to fulfill my duties effectively.” As a mother of three, she balances her professional responsibilities with the demands of family life, facing the complexities that come with shift work.

Currently, she works in the Sexual Offence Unit, focusing on sensitive cases involving children and women, a role that she finds deeply rewarding. “I chose to become a Policewoman because I wanted to help others, especially women and children,” she expressed passionately.

During her address, PC Sadamma encouraged young women to pursue careers in law enforcement, emphasizing that success requires hard work and resilience. “Nothing comes easy in life; everyone must either work hard or smart to have a fulfilling career,” she remarked. Her story serves as a beacon of hope, illustrating that through determination and support, women can thrive in diverse and challenging roles.

PC Sadamma’s recognition not only underscores her personal achievements but also celebrates the evolving role of women in law enforcement. It sends a powerful message to future generations, encouraging them to break barriers and pursue their aspirations with vigor.
