Police Constable Sadamma from the Labasa Police Station has passionately asserted that women are fully capable of excelling in multiple roles, such as police officers, mothers, and wives. Her encouraging remarks were made during a ceremony where she and 37 other police personnel from the Northern Division were honored with Long Service and Good Conduct medals by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew at the Labasa Civic Centre.

With two decades of dedicated service in the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma has faced various challenges, especially in a profession traditionally dominated by men. Reflecting on her journey, she acknowledged the difficulties of her early career but credited her success to the unwavering support from her family and the understanding of her superiors, stating, “It wasn’t easy at first, but with their encouragement, I was able to perform my duties effectively.”

Currently, she serves in the Sexual Offence Unit, where she primarily deals with sensitive cases concerning children and women — a role she finds deeply rewarding. “I chose to become a Policewoman because I wanted to help others, especially women and children,” she expressed, illustrating her commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.

Encouraging aspiring young women, PC Sadamma stressed the importance of hard work and resilience, stating, “Nothing comes easy in life; everyone must either work hard or smart to have a fulfilling career.” Her journey stands as a powerful testament to women’s potential to thrive in challenging roles, reflecting broader movements toward gender equality within law enforcement.
