Police Constable Sadamma from the Labasa Police Station has made a compelling case for the ability of women to successfully manage the challenging roles of police officer, mother, and wife. This statement follows the awarding of Long Service and Good Conduct medals to her and 37 other officers from the Northern Division in a ceremony held at the Labasa Civic Centre, officiated by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew.

With a commendable 20-year career in the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma has gained extensive experience, having served at various stations including Totogo Police Station in Suva and Lautoka Police Station. Reflecting on her career, she acknowledged the initial challenges posed by working in a male-dominated environment. “It wasn’t easy at first, but with the unwavering support from my family and understanding superiors, I managed to fulfill my duties effectively,” she shared.

Currently, Sadamma works in the Sexual Offence Unit, focusing on sensitive cases primarily involving children and women—a role that she finds incredibly fulfilling. “I chose to become a Policewoman because I wanted to help others, especially women and children,” she stated, emphasizing her commitment to supporting vulnerable populations.

Sadamma encourages young women aspiring to enter law enforcement to pursue their dreams relentlessly, emphasizing that “nothing comes easy in life; everyone must either work hard or smart to have a fulfilling career.” Her inspiring journey highlights not only her personal achievements but also reinforces a broader movement toward gender equality within law enforcement.

The recognition of PC Sadamma’s contributions serves as a powerful testament to the evolving role of women in traditionally male-dominated fields. Her story not only embodies the spirit of resilience and determination but also shines a hopeful light on the future of female representation in law enforcement, inspiring upcoming generations to break barriers and pursue their aspirations with confidence.

In conclusion, PC Sadamma’s narrative is a beacon of hope, illustrating that with dedication, support, and hard work, women can excel in diverse and challenging roles, contributing meaningfully to their communities.
