Police Constable Sadamma from the Labasa Police Station has made a significant statement promoting the capability of women to effectively balance the demanding roles of police officer, mother, and wife. This assertion came after she, along with 37 other officers from the Northern Division, received Long Service and Good Conduct medals during a ceremony at the Labasa Civic Centre, presented by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew.

Having dedicated two decades to the Fiji Police Force, PC Sadamma’s career journey includes tenure at multiple stations, including Totogo Police Station in Suva and Lautoka Police Station. She openly spoke about the challenges of entering a historically male-dominated environment but credited her triumphs to the unwavering support from her family and understanding from her superiors. “It wasn’t easy at first,” she shared, “but with their support, I managed to fulfill my duties effectively.”

Currently serving in the Sexual Offence Unit, PC Sadamma handles sensitive cases involving children and women, a role she finds deeply rewarding. “I chose to become a Policewoman because I wanted to help others, especially women and children,” she remarked, emphasizing her commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.

In her speech, she inspired young women aspiring to enter law enforcement, urging them to pursue their dreams with determination. “Nothing comes easy in life; everyone must either work hard or smart to have a fulfilling career,” she emphasized, highlighting the crucial role of perseverance in achieving success.

PC Sadamma’s story not only celebrates her individual achievements but also represents a broader movement towards gender equality in law enforcement. Her journey serves as an inspiring example for future generations of women, illustrating that with dedication and strong support, it is possible to excel in diverse roles and challenge traditional gender expectations.

This positive narrative reinforces the importance of resilience and family support, fostering hope that women can thrive in challenging professions. It promotes a vision of a more inclusive future within law enforcement and beyond, encouraging aspiring women to break barriers and pursue their aspirations with confidence and courage.
