Ema Bi, a 46-year-old mother of two and a dedicated nurse practitioner from Tuatua, Labasa, has made headlines by achieving remarkable milestones in her academic and professional journey. She was the star of the TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education graduation ceremony, where she earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Leadership and Management.

During the ceremony, Ms. Bi stood out by winning six esteemed awards, including Overall Academic Excellence. She excelled in key subjects such as Nursing Leadership in the 21st Century and Strategic Management in Nursing, showcasing her commitment to her field.

Reflecting on her path, Ms. Bi shared the personal struggles she faced after the loss of her husband, Ashad Ali, who was her greatest supporter. “He always encouraged me to pursue whatever course I wanted and dreamed of seeing me graduate,” she recalled, emphasizing the impact of his encouragement on her journey.

While juggling her postgraduate studies along with a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Ms. Bi attributed her success to her mentor, Selina Waqa Ledua from the Fiji National Council, as well as the continuous support from her family and friends. She stated, “I keep reminding myself that this is not the end of the road. With a positive mindset, anything is possible.”

With 24 years dedicated to nursing, Ms. Bi views the profession as a noble avenue to make a positive impact on people’s lives. Aspiring to become a chief nurse, she encourages others to chase their dreams, especially mothers and widows, by assuring them that age should not be a barrier to success. “Age is just a number, and God has given us one life to live. Make it count,” she urged.

This inspiring story highlights the resilience and determination of individuals who, regardless of age or circumstance, pursue their dreams and make a difference in their communities. It serves as a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to achieve one’s goals and that strong support systems play a critical role in personal success.
