A recent inspection conducted by the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations has identified violations concerning the minimum employment terms and occupational health and safety standards at the Grace Road Company (GRC) across Viti Levu.

Minister Agni Deo Singh emphasized that the inspection report indicated contraventions of the Employment Relations Act 2007 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996. In light of these findings, the Ministry plans to pursue further investigations into the issues that arose during the inspections.

Singh reaffirmed that Fiji’s laws are applicable to both local and migrant workers, stating that the Ministry is dedicated to ensuring all employers comply with employment legislation. He urged GRC to fulfill its legal obligations and ensure that all workers receive their rightful compensation.

This proactive stance by the Ministry represents a significant step towards enhancing worker rights and safety in the workplace. As the investigation unfolds, it is hopeful that any shortcomings will be addressed, paving the way for a more equitable and safe working environment for all employees.
