Police in Nadi are currently conducting an investigation into a brawl that took place near the Nadi bus station last weekend, coinciding with the Hope Carnival at Koroivolu Park. A video circulating on social media has drawn significant attention, showing individuals involved in the altercation, with reports indicating that some were armed with pipes and pieces of timber.

Acting Commissioner of Police Livai Driu confirmed that police responded to the scene where tensions escalated as youths exchanged insults and created a commotion. Officers intervened, detaining several individuals who were later released to diffuse the situation, with no formal reports of assault made.

Saliceni Raiwalui, chairperson of the Nadi Board of Special Administrators, expressed concern over the incident, noting that such disturbances negatively impact the town’s image. He emphasized that while they have not yet received an official report, measures will be enforced to prevent future occurrences.

This recent brawl echoes similar incidents reported in other areas, including a nightclub altercation in Suva, where police swiftly acted to ensure safety and order. The proactive stance taken by law enforcement in such situations showcases their commitment to addressing community disturbances effectively.

Efforts to restore peace and community cooperation are vital in the wake of these altercations. While incidents like these raise alarms about public safety, swift police action can lead to preventive measures that foster a safer environment for everyone.
