Brad Pitt is set to thrill audiences with his new Formula One film, titled “F1,” releasing next week. In a recent development, Pitt had the opportunity to drive a real Formula One car for the first time, testing a 2023 McLaren MCL60 at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. This marks an exciting milestone for the 61-year-old actor, who plays the lead role of Sonny Hayes, a fictional racing driver, in the Apple Originals production.
The test session was organized by the renowned McLaren team, with contributions from F1 regular Lando Norris and rising F2 talent Alex Dunne. Pitt’s experience was praised by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, a co-producer of the film, who noted the impressive speeds at which Pitt drove, exceeding 180 miles per hour. Hamilton acknowledged Pitt’s dedication and focus during the driving sessions, underscoring the actor’s commitment to portraying the racing world authentically.
Interestingly, the cars used during the production of “F1” were not full-fledged F1 vehicles but modified Formula Two cars, developed by Mercedes to resemble their Grand Prix counterparts. This attention to detail highlights the film’s pursuit of authenticity, augmented by Hamilton’s role in ensuring that racing dynamics and protocols are accurately depicted.
Anticipation is building as the movie is set to capitalize on the surge of interest in Formula One, largely driven by the success of the Netflix series “Drive to Survive,” which has captivated fans worldwide. The film aims to bridge the gap between cinematic storytelling and motorsport authenticity, potentially expanding the fanbase of Formula One.
As audiences prepare for “F1,” it embodies a blend of action, drama, and the exhilarating essence of racing, promising an engaging experience for both car enthusiasts and film lovers alike.
