Reginald Prakash of the Police team showcased an impressive performance during his boxing match against Emosi Vucago from the Army in the 60-63.5kg category at the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl Boxing Competition, held at the LICI Courts in Laucala Bay, Suva. Although Prakash ultimately lost the bout by a split decision after three hard-fought rounds, his skills and tenacity captivated the audience in attendance.

Initially, Prakash took control of the match, demonstrating a strong offensive strategy. However, as the rounds progressed, Vucago found opportunities to exploit openings in Prakash’s defense, leading to his victory. This marks Prakash’s second consecutive year competing in the Sukuna Bowl, where he acknowledged the strength of his opponents, crediting the Army team for their formidable presence in the ring.

“We have prepared well, same as our opponents, but as we know, they’ve been fighting wholly around,” Prakash stated, highlighting the rigorous training both teams undertook over the past two months.

On the other side, Vucago expressed gratitude for his win, attributing his success to divine guidance and the support he received from fellow Army boxers during their preparation. “Before we trained, we would always put God first and during our training, we would make sacrifices and continue to push ourselves through it all,” Vucago shared.

This event not only highlights the skill and determination of the competitors but also embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie amongst the teams. With both fighters committed to their craft and demonstrating resilience, there is a hopeful outlook for the future of boxing in the competition, suggesting that both athletes will continue to grow and inspire through their dedication to the sport.
