Krishnil Mudaliar was visibly upset after suffering a controversial points decision loss to Junior Binnu Singh in the WBF Australasian featherweight title bout at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, on Saturday night. Mudaliar, who is a former champion in both the Fiji bantamweight and super featherweight divisions, expressed his frustration, stating, “This is daylight robbery and this decision needs to be reviewed.”
The Suva boxer utilized his reach advantage effectively, frequently landing jabs to keep Singh at bay. He insisted that the decision was unjust, claiming, “I should be ahead on the scorecard. He (Binnu) never won any round; from round one to eight, it was all my rounds.”
The judges scored the bout in favor of Singh, with Fatu Tuimanono at 77-72, Jone Loloma at 78-72, and Rahul Sami at 77-75. Prior to the fight, Mudaliar had emphasized the importance of fairness among ring officials.
Mudaliar expressed his willingness to face Singh again for a rematch, urging the commission to consider this. Singh, on the other hand, stated that he plans to fight an overseas opponent next. He dedicated his victory to his late grandfather, Jaswant Singh, who passed away the previous week, expressing gratitude for his grandfather’s support in his boxing career.
Singh mentioned that the fight unfolded according to their game plan and acknowledged the toughness of Mudaliar. He confirmed plans to compete in a November event organized by Bluewater Boxing Promotion.
