Boxing Controversy: Mudaliar Calls Decision “Daylight Robbery”

Krishnil Mudaliar expressed his disappointment and frustration after losing to Junior Binnu Singh in a contentious points decision for the WBF Australasian featherweight title at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, on Saturday night. Mudaliar, who is a former champion in both the bantamweight and super featherweight divisions in Fiji, was visibly emotional, stating, “This is daylight robbery and this decision needs to be reviewed.”

During the match, Mudaliar utilized his reach advantage, effectively using his jabs to keep Singh at bay throughout the eight rounds. He firmly believed he deserved the victory, asserting, “I should be ahead on the scorecard. He (Binnu) never won any round; from round one to eight it was all my rounds.” The judges scored the bout in favor of Singh, with Fatu Tuimanono scoring it 77-72, Jone Loloma at 78-72, and Rahul Sami 77-75.

Prior to the fight, Mudaliar had emphasized the need for fairness from ring officials and has since called for a rematch, saying, “I’m ready to fight Binnu again for the title. The commission should order for a rematch.”

On the other hand, Singh expressed his intention to fight an opponent abroad next. He dedicated his victory to his late grandfather, Jaswant Singh, who passed away the previous week. Singh reflected, “He was my dad’s father and he was not a boxer but a great motivator in my career. This win is for him.” He felt satisfied with the fight, affirming that it went according to their game plan and acknowledged Mudaliar as a tough opponent. Singh also confirmed his participation in an upcoming match in November under the Bluewater Boxing Promotion.

In other fight results, Siliveni Nawai and Semi Tui ended in a draw, Rakuro Daunivavana won against Ronald Naidu by third-round TKO, Samuela Naqari triumphed over Kolinio Luvelolo on points, Masitoqi Rokotuva defeated Mohammed Ali by third-round TKO, Junior Manna drew with Lepani Levatia, Jnr Abhay Chand won against Tomasi Vunavou by second-round TKO, Azhar Khan beat Nitin Lal, and Mohammed Nafiz overcame Shefrazud Dean.
