The investigation into the tragic death of featherweight boxer Ubayd Haider is set to be made public, as announced by Jese Saukuru, the Minister for Youth and Sports, during a recent session in Parliament. This statement came in response to questions raised by Opposition MP Prem Chand regarding the Boxing Commission of Fiji’s responsibility in ensuring boxers were insured for the event held on October 26 in Nadi.

Saukuru informed Parliament that the three-member Board of Inquiry is still in the process of completing their investigation, which includes interviews with individuals from overseas. He noted that a ministerial statement regarding the incident would be made at an appropriate time. “Their report will be tabled to the public in recognition of what this young lad (Haider) has contributed to Fiji. We should respect the ongoing investigations until we fully understand what transpired that night,” Saukuru stated, emphasizing the importance of the inquiry.

While details remain under wraps, the forthcoming findings may provide much-needed clarity on the situation, highlighting the commitment to transparency and accountability in sports governance.

This incident, while tragic, may lead to enhanced safety measures and improved regulations for athletes in the future. By addressing these concerns publicly and thoroughly, the Boxing Commission of Fiji can work towards ensuring that such incidents are prevented, fostering a safer environment for all athletes.

In summary, the investigation into Ubayd Haider’s death continues, with findings expected to be released to the public, underlining the importance of accountability in sports and a commitment to the welfare of athletes.
