All boxers are provided with equal opportunities to compete in bouts, as emphasized by the chairman of the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF), Adi Narayan, during the launch of the Bluewater Boxing Promotion last Thursday at Suva’s Holiday Inn.
Narayan made it clear that the commission would not intervene in matchups, even if there is a discrepancy in the number of fights between the boxers. He stated, “If a boxer has a record that does not match their opponent, the commission will not object to that. If you want to fight, we will give you a chance to prove yourself because it’s a contest, not a championship fight.”
In an exciting development, boxer Robin Hazelman will have the opportunity to challenge the cruiserweight title holder, Alivereti Kauyaca, provided he secures a victory over Joseph Kwadjo. Narayan expressed optimism, saying, “Give him a chance; he might knock him (Kwadjo) out, and we’ll see what happens in the Bluewater boxing promotions on February 22.”
The event, set to take place at the Vodafone Arena, will feature a total of 15 bouts, promising an action-packed evening for boxing fans.
This approach by the BCF is commendable, as it encourages boxers to showcase their skills, regardless of their previous experience. It fosters a spirit of competition and aspiration within the sport, potentially leading to new and exciting talent emerging in the boxing community.
In summary, the Bluewater Boxing Promotion underscores the BCF’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for boxers while ensuring that the excitement of the sport remains at the forefront.
