Two heavyweight boxers in Fiji have had their boxing licenses suspended for four months by the Boxing Commission of Fiji following an incident during a match. Minister of Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru expressed his disappointment and called for immediate action after an altercation occurred on Saturday at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, between reigning heavyweight champion James ‘The Beast’ Singh and Semi Dauloloma.

BCF chairman Adi Narayan described the incident as a disgrace to the sport after meeting with the Minister. He emphasized his concern at a press conference, stating, “It is disturbing to witness such an incident, and the Ministry will not tolerate this in professional boxing.” Narayan underscored that both boxers should have exhibited greater sportsmanship given their champion status.

After consulting with the Minister of Sports, the BCF decided to impose a four-month suspension on both boxers, aiming to convey a strong message to all athletes in the sport. The suspension means they will return in 2025 with a fresh start, while Singh retains his title.

The altercation occurred during their recent fight when Singh struck Dauloloma while both were on the canvas. This match was their third encounter; Singh had previously been knocked down by Dauloloma in the first round. As Dauloloma cornered Singh in the second round, both fighters ended up on the floor, leading to Singh throwing two punches at Dauloloma as officials struggled to separate them. The situation escalated, resulting in an exchange of aggressive words and punches between both fighters and their corners.

The bout was ultimately stopped and declared a no-contest, marking a troubling incident in the sport of boxing in Fiji.
